What's Outside the Bubble?

Based on the current theory, the total mass of the visible universe turns out to be much less than scientists think it should be. That's why scientists are looking for "dark matter" (they're also looking for "dark energy"). Could the universe be much bigger than originally thought? Maybe the visible universe is just a small bubble in a vast infinite ocean.
