What is Reality?

Imagine for a moment that the Earth and all life on it suddenly vanished, as if it had never been there in the first place. It is obvious (to me) that the rest of the universe would continue to exist unchanged. The inanimate and infinite universe does not need humans. We think we are important, but we are not.

With humans never having existed, the question remains: What is reality? Quite clearly the universe is reality. The universe exists. Reality exists. Humans are merely observers and to a lesser degree participants. We are lucky to be here at all and we should make the most of it!

There can be no good or evil in a universe without humans. Good and evil exist only in the minds of men. Likewise, God and Satan, heaven and hell, love and hate can exist only in our minds.

There is no mystical grand plan for humans in the universe. In particular, there is no plan for the evolution of the human species. Evolution is something that just happens. At this point you might ask: What then is the purpose of life? The answer is simple. You have to create your own purpose. The father of existentialism, early 19th century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, maintained that the individual is solely responsible for giving his own life meaning.
