Introducing Quantum Biology

Vlatko Vedra writes about quantum biology in the June 2011 issue of Scientific American. He explains that migratory birds "see" the Earth's magnetic field because certain molecules in the bird's eye respond to the magnetic field through quantum effects. And experiments suggest quantum effects might also explain the high efficiency of photosynthesis in plants.
