The Yellow Peril

In the 1970's Hal Lindsey warned the West about the "The Yellow Peril". He wrote that China, Japan and their allies are the "kings of the East" as prophesied in the Bible. According to Lindsey an Oriental army of 200 million soldiers would march to the Middle East in the battle of Armageddon: "...the vast hordes of the Orient probably united under the Red Chinese war machine..." would clash with "...the combined forces of the Western civilisation united under the leadership of the Roman Dictator...". To Lindsey it was apparent that the end of the world was imminent. Read more in "The Yellow Peril", the 7th chapter of Lindsey's international best seller The Late Great Planet Earth¹.

Lindsey probably took his lead from a book published by GG Rupert in 1911. I can recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject, or who simply wants to understand why America is afraid of China. You can download a copy of Rupert's book "The Yellow Peril" at The Open Library². Rupert believed it was prophesied there would be a final war between East and West at the battle of Armageddon, that Jesus Christ would return to save the West and that the USA had a special part to play³.

Now back to reality: It's obvious that the USA and China need each other! Within the next 5-10 years China will most likely become the USA's biggest trading partner (currently the EU). In 2010 the USA's imports from China totalled US$365 billion. Exports to China were US$92 billion. The USA's debt to China is currently US$1.16 trillion. Would China set out to destroy its biggest debtor?

Despite this, the notion that China is a threat to the USA persists. Many Americans think war with China is a foregone conclusion. In fact, it's evident that some people want the USA to fall in a heap, they want there to be war and they want the world to end. In my opinion these people are dangerous, elitist, racist and ignorant. Without a doubt they are also delusional.
