21 Priests Suspended

The Philadelphia archdiocese has suspended twenty-one Roman Catholic priests who were named as child molestation suspects1. Anyone who thought last year's child abuse scandals were a thing of the past must surely be getting the message. Institutionalised child abuse by clergy is endemic in the Catholic Church. But we only hear about it when it is discovered, and when news of the discovery gets out.

If you are looking for the truth I can recommend David Yallop's book The Power and the Glory2. Chapter 9, "Beyond Belief", tells of the Vatican's ongoing cover-up of sexual abuse of children by priests. Beneath a thin veneer of righteousness the Catholic Church hides its dark, evil secret. The cover-up has been going on for hundreds of years.

Doesn't the Pope read his bible? Jesus recommended a punishment for men who abuse children: "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea".3

It appears the Pope has nothing to say about the suspensions. Nor would the Vatican comment: "Senior Vatican spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi declined to comment, pointing out that the matter was being handled by the archdiocese of Philadelphia."4 Looks like it's being swept under the Vatican carpet.
