Russia Invades Israel

I'm picturing it now, a scene straight out of Mad Max. Putin leading the charge across the Syrian desert, bare chested and riding his rusty old motorcycle. Following close behind, thousands of all-terrain vehicles, bits and pieces rescued from the scrap-yards of the former USSR.

Writers on biblical prophecy have been unanimous in their warning that Russia's imperialism, militarism, communism and atheism will be the demise of the West. It is prophesied, they believe, that Russia and its allies will invade Israel just before the final great battle of Armageddon. This is based on the premise that the country of "Magog" mentioned in biblical prophecy is the Russia of today.

It's interesting that, at the time they published their respective books, Hal Lindsey in 1970, W Lamb in 1929 and GG Rupert in 1911, each was convinced the anticipated biblical signs were present and that Armageddon was imminent. They all wanted it to happen, because without the preliminary battle of Armageddon there can be no Second Coming!

Despite the trauma of the USSR's dissolution in 1991, Russia is now an extremely wealthy and powerful country. It is nominally the world's tenth-largest economy. Moscow is said to have the most billionaires of any city in the world. The Russian Federation is geographically the largest country in the world with the world's largest mineral and energy reserves. Like China and India, the Russian Federation is one of the new emerging super-powers.

So you might well ask why Russia would attack Israel. Lindsey, Lamb and Rupert think Israel is a wealthy country worth conquering. They say Russia wants control of the land-bridge between Africa and Asia, and also needs access to ports in the Mediterranean. They believe Russia's atheism makes Russia the natural enemy of Israel. But it's all just their fantasy - the world has moved on.
