The Blavatsky Delusion
In 1815 William Prout proposed that the hydrogen atom was the fundamental particle of which all other atoms were composed. Circa 1838 Richard Laming theorised a sub-atomic core carrying electrical charges around it in concentric shells. In 1874 George Stoney paved the way for JJ Thompson by showing that atoms had electric charges, which he later named electrons. And so the story unfolds... Anyone who thinks Helena Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine played a part in the discovery of sub-atomic particles is seriously deluded!
