What Was Einstein Thinking?

There is no doubt Einstein changed his mind on 4-dimensional space. Reputedly his original thinking was that: "Time has no independent existence apart from the order of events by which we measure it". But Minkowski pasted his "spacetime" label on Einstein's theory and the idea that time actually exists is now firmly embedded in the human psyche.
