Relativity & Time Dilation

A clock in a space craft travelling at high speed around the Earth has been found to slow down when compared to a reference clock back on Earth. This effect, predicted by Einstein's special theory of relativity, is called time dilation. But note that the actual experimental observation is the clock slows down. Do other mechanisms also slow down?
